Abstract- Irrigation is a key aspect of agriculture, and it uses a significant amount of the nation’s available freshwater resources. Thus, for sustainable agriculture, water must be used efficiently and effectively. Improving irrigation efficiency in agriculture is needed for the survival of sustainable agriculture production. The complex irrigation network can be modeled and studied using various mathematical techniques, and it helps in understanding the system connectivity, water distribution, resource allocation, and optimization strategies. This paper presents a brief overview of some mathematical optimization techniques used for irrigation system design.
